Группа "Bomfunk MC's" - это вовсе не то количество народу, которое мелькает в клипах. А всего два человека: B.O.W. (или BO DUBB) и DJ Gismo. Оба - граждане Финляндии.
На Зелёном континенте, как ещё называют Австралию, тысячи фанатов спрашивали Bomfunk MC's: почему они назвали группу именно так, а не иначе? И ребята отвечали: "Bom" - сокращение от "бомбить", то есть рисовать граффити. "Funk" - музыкальный стиль, одна из составляющих хип-хопа. А "MC" значит "Master of Ceremonies" - человек, который толкает хоповые телеги со сцены.
B.O.W.
Настоящее имя - Рэймонд Эбенкс (Raymond Ebanks), ему 29 лет. Родился он в Лондоне, но с детства
живёт в Хельсинки. Необычная внешность B.O.W. обусловлена тем, что отец у него с Ямайки, а мать
- коренная финка. B.O.W. - один из самых первых представителей финской хип-хоп культуры: начиная
с середины 80-х годов у него было несколько хип-хоп проектов и групп, последний из которых
название "Soup de Loop". На его счету первая рекорд-студия хип-хопа в Хельсинки (1994 год).
DJ Gismo
На самом деле его зовут (если выговаривают :) Исмо Лаппалайнен. Ему 24 года, и все их он прожил
в Финляндии. Диджейством Исмо увлёкся в 15-летнем возрасте, когда начал играть хаус и техно.
Исмо не только музыкант (насколько это слово подходяще для DJ), но и коллекционер музыки:
главное место в его коллекции занимают соул, фанк, грув и хип-хоп, причём преимущественно те,
которые создавались в Финляндии в период с 60-х по 90-е годы.
Ребята познакомились в одном из ночных клубов - Гизмо крутил там пластинки, а B.O.W. взобрался на сцену на сцену и начал гнать телеги. Им обоим это дело понравилось - так и родился дуэт Bomfunk MC's. Было это в начале 1998 года. И уже к июлю выпустили дебютный сингл "Uprocking Beats", который продержался в финском танцевальном чарте в течение нескольких недель.
"Когда мы встретились три года назад,- говорит B.O.W.,- мы сразу поняли, что мы движемся в одном направлении электронной музыки. Он - со стороны фанка, а я - со старой школой рэпа. Мы делали некоторые треки с "JS-16", и теперь мы здесь".
Вот вопрос - если их двое, то кто все эти люди, кочующие из клипа в клип. Ответ - это группа поддержки "Bomfunk MC's": барабанщик Ари Тоикка, басист Вилле Микинен и брейк-дэнс-группа "Savage Feet". В их знаменитом "Freestyler" в роли главного героя снялся их 16-летний приятель - ди-джей, модель и актёр Марло Шнеллман. Он выпустил свой сингл, который неплохо продавался.
Два года назад "Bomfunk MC's" выпустили альбом "In Stereo" и номинировались с ним на Эмми - финский вариант Гремми. И в итоге унесли награды в четырёх номинациях: "Лучший дебют", "Лучший дебютный альбом", "Лучшая песня года" и "Лучший продюсер". Это был самый продаваемый в Финляндии финский альбом на английском языке, а "Freestyler" стал первым финским клипом в ротации MTV.
Критики объясняют феноменальный успех группы тем, что наконец-то нашлись люди, которые объединили электро-хаус со старым добрым рэпом.
